It’s one of those chores nobody likes – balancing the budget.

At the close of the fiscal year, a number of public agencies will be doing just that and hoping the results are better than those in Sacramento.

Pomona City Council members will meet this evening to vote on a proposed budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year. The council postponed the matter at its June 6 meeting so staff members could gather more information about the problems at Washington Park Pool and the library’s service hours.

In La Verne, the City Council will discuss its preliminary budget of $42.2 million at today’s study session. Last year, the city passed a $46.5 million budget with cuts in almost every department.

In light of the state budget mess, Chino Valley Unified School District will have to weigh its projected shortfalls. At Wednesday’s meeting, board members will discuss its projected deficit spending in the 2013-14 school year.

Find out in the Daily Bulletin later this week if local leaders made it out of these budget decisions alive.
