Mark Kirk, the county’s Director of Governmental Relations and a defendant in a criminal probe into the county’s settlement with Rancho Cucamonga developer Colonies Partners LP, has resigned.

Kirk submitted his resignation via e-mail about 9 a.m. Monday to the county’s Chief Executive Officer, Greg Devereaux, and Human Resources Director Andrew Lamberto, county spokesman David Wert said.

“This e-mail is to notify you that I am tending my resignation from the county, effective immediately,” Kirk said in his e-mail. He did not elaborate further as to why he was resigning, but informed Devereaux and Lamberto to contact him should they have further questions.

Before moving into Devereaux’s office last summer as part of government restructuring, Kirk served as Supervisor Gary Ovitt’s chief of staff.
