VICTORVILLE • City Manager Jim Cox appears poised to retire again in as little as three weeks, when his current contract runs out.

Nothing has been said about who might replace the 35-year veteran, though it appears someone might be promoted to fill the spot internally since Cox’s contract expires June 30 and no national recruitment effort is underway.

Cox did not respond to a request for comment on the issue.

“I can’t really speak to that at this point,” Mayor Ryan McEachron said by phone Wednesday when asked about Cox’s resignation. “The reason is that has not officially occurred.”

McEachron declined to discuss the issue further, citing personnel issues and the fact that talks had been taking place during closed session. However he said more information may be forthcoming at the next City Council meeting June 21.
