The Orange County Board of Supervisors led by foolish supervisor John Moorlach just had their hats handed to them by the California Supreme Court.

Last year the supervisors embarked on an endeavour to repeal enhanced benefits a previous board of supervisors granted to the county’s sheriff’s deputies.

The argument presented was that granting the benefit known as “3 at 50”, meaning a pension formula equal to 3% of compensation for each year of service payable at age 50, violated the state constitution.

Yes, it does sound stupid.

Every court in the state agreed and handed a victory to the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriff’s and its president Wayne Quint.

The legal bill based on this bad legal advice?

A tidy $5 million!

But it’s other people’s money.
