Measure would change city voting

Local elections and campaigning in Pomona could see vast changes depending on the actions of the City Council tonight.
A proposed ballot initiative calling for council members to be selected by all Pomona voters as opposed to voters within one of the six districts will be discussed. If approved, the proposal could go before voters on the November 2012 ballot.
Last year, a group of residents collected enough signatures to place the proposed measure before voters. The proposed ballot initiative calls council candidates to be residents of the district they wish to represent but be elected at-large.
Council candidates now are elected only by the voters of the district in which they live.
