Former federal prosecutor Sheri Pym was sworn in Friday as a U.S. magistrate judge and will be assigned to the Riverside Federal Courthouse.

Pym had served as chief of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Riverside and as an assistant U.S. attorney. She mostly did criminal prosecution work. Before that she was an associate at the Milberg Weiss law firm in San Diego.

Pym will be the third magistrate judge sitting in the courthouse, joining jurists Oswald Parada and David Bristow. The court currently has one federal judge, Virginia Phillips. A second judgeship has been vacant since Stephen Larson retired in 2009.
