Riverside County debuted a new website today detailing its current budget situation, pension costs and ongoing labor negotiations.
The county faces a $31.3 million budget shortfall for the current fiscal year and the prospect of continued cuts as it works to align expenses with shrinking general-fund revenues.
In addition to budget information, the site — http://rc-budget-labor.com — contains data to back up the county’s argument that changes to its pension plan are needed. Without changes, the county estimates annual pension costs could top $300 million by 2020. It’s an issue where some supervisors have clashed with employee groups.
