APPLE VALLEY • It looks as though Walmart will have the signatures it needs to put its planned Supercenter on an upcoming ballot, letting voters decide whether the project should move forward.

“To date 8,279 unverified signatures have been turned in,” Town Clerk LaVonda Pearson said via e-mail Monday, with only 5,015 signatures needed and another five months left to collect them.

However, several town leaders have launched a campaign to oppose that ballot measure, concerned that it calls for granting Walmart a specific plan — or potential unique set of development standards — for the 30-acre site at Dale Evans Parkway and Thunderbird Road.
