Live election results

Former state Assemblywoman Sharon Runner has handily defeated a Democratic rival to win the state Senate seat held by her husband until last year.

Runner, a Republican from Lancaster, had 68 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s special election with nearly 18 percent of precincts reporting. She won the Senate District 17 seat over Democrat Darren Parker, a small-business owner from Lancaster, had 32 percent support.

They were the only two candidates vying to represent a district that includes parts of Kern, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.
