Brian DeForge will serve as mayor of Beaumont for another year.

The Beaumont City Council selected DeForge for the job at its Tuesday night meeting. DeForge, a member of the council, has been mayor the past year.

The council picks a new mayor and mayor pro tem this time every year. A council member may serve as mayor for two consecutive years.

The council also decided that Councilman Roger Berg will remain mayor pro tem, who fills in when the mayor is absent.

DeForge grew up in Beaumont and has been on the council since 1999. DeForge and Berg were re-elected in November.

DeForge said that no one does his or her job on the council alone.

“I appreciate all the help,” he said.

In the cities of the San Gorgonio Pass area, the mayor is mainly a figurehead although the person does run the city council meetings.

DeForge attends several events as the city’s representative.
