News from sources inside the San Bernardino County Public Defender’s office indicates Public Defender Doreen Boxer has been dismissed by County chief executive officer Greg Devereaux.

As of noon today Boxer had not yet made any formal announcement.

Boxer, who has struggled to shake a brief lapse in judgement over a 2006 relationship with San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos, reportedly had lost the support of county supervisors over operational management issues.

Before coming to San Bernardino County, Boxer was previously an associate public defender for Orange County. She was hired in March 2006.

Another expected departure from the department is second-in-command Laurie Ferguson.

Boxer’s departure follows the exodus of county counsel Ruth Stringer whose last day was Friday.

Update: (03:10 p.m.) – County government center insiders now also confirm the story.
