With more than half of voters in the 32nd state Senate district registered as Democrats, Earl De Vries, a Republican candidate for 32nd State Senate District race, will need all the help he can get to defeat incumbent, Sen. Gloria Negrete McLeod, D-Montclair.

The self-proclaimed pro-traditional family and pro-life candidate, De Vries said his plan to restore California to its “former grandeur as the Golden State” involves reining in “the tax-and-spend liberals and living within our means.”

De Vries, a transportation supervisor at Rancho Cucamonga-based Generator Services, is also advocating drilling for oil, which “would bring jobs and revenue to the state and ensure energy independence from foreign countries.”

McLeod, who chairs the Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee, is seeking her second term.

“Even though we will still have hard times ahead, there is still much to do in Sacramento,” she said. “My re-election will allow me to continue my work in the Senate representing the residents of the Inland Empire.

“I have worked over these last four years to secure more than $10 million in federal funds to begin the cleanup of polluted ground water, which (is) critical to the district, but there is still much more work to do. I also want to work to bring a more common sense laws to the Senate.”
