Both republican nominees for California Governor and U.S. Senate took narrow leads over their democratic rivals in a rare live telephone poll conducted for the period October 13-14.

The poll conducted by Washington D.C.-based Wilson Research Strategies (WRS) sampled 800 likely voters on their preferences.

The following results were recorded:

Carly Fiorina currently leads by three points against Barbara Boxer in the race for United States Senate from California.

.

o    U.S. Senate Ballot

Total Fiorina………………………………46%

Total Boxer………………………………..43%

Total Other Candidates ………………..5%

Undecided ………………………………….6%

.

Meg Whitman leads by one point in the race for Governor of California.

.

o    Governor’s Ballot

Total Whitman …………………………..45%

Total Brown……………………………….44%

Total Other Candidates ……………….. 4%

Undecided …………………………………..7%

.

The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.5%.

The new poll narrowed the average poll spread on the website www.RealClearPolitics.com to Brown +3.0% and Boxer to +1.3%.

Both Whitman and Fiorina have began to steadily cut into their respective opponents lead.

Both race are now well within the margin of error. Meaning both contests are currently considered a toss-up. If the tightening continues into Election Day the prospects become favorable for Whitman and Fiorina victories.

I have used WRS for polling in the past and can attest to their accuracy. In 2008, WRS predicted a victory for Third District San Bernardino County Supervisor Neil Derry over five-term incumbent Dennis Hansberger.
