The Sunshine Ordinance authored by Supervisor Neil Derry received unanimous support today from the Board of Supervisors and will take effect in 30 days.

A key provision of the ordinance prohibits elected and high ranking officials from citing the “deliberative process” as a means of failing to disclose receipts and other expenditures from public scrutiny. Supervisor Derry believes the right of the people to be fully apprised of all expenditures is sacrosanct and that that right must be staunchly defended.

Other provisions call for training of multiple employees in each department to ensure that public information requests are handled property and expeditiously as well as the permanent archival of all Board of Supervisor and Planning Committee meetings.
