Finally!
Yesterday, Third District Supervisor Neil Derry pushed his ‘sunshine ordinance’ through the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors on a 5-0 vote.
Not that some of his peers really wanted it.
Fifth District Supervisor Josie Gonzales even admitted as much on the dais at yesterday’s meeting.
So much for common sense.
A key provision of the measure make available documents related to the spending of public funds by officials.
Congratulations to Supervisor Derry and his Third District Staff. Well done!

Lets keep this momentum going folks! Thank you Supervisor Derry and Chief-of-Staff Watson for all the hard work in seeing this come to fruition, and for helping the other supervisors to be the sun light at the end of the proverbial county tunnel-o-corruption.
Please don’t get me wrong, I greatly appreciate efforts by Neil Derry to enhance an era of openness on the part of local government, however, the cynical side of me thinks this will just serve to drive the crooks further underground. I sincerely hope that I am wrong in my assessment.
Even if this is successful, there remains much work to be done to further improve county government operations.
The passage of the “Sunshine Ordinance” should be viewed as only the beginning and not a panacea to all the problems with the County of San Bernardino.
Josie, see the sunshine, be the sunshine…everyone of us can make a difference.
