In the Chino Valley, several debates have been scheduled by the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce. On Thursday, candidates for the Chino Hills City Council race will tout their qualifications. There are eight candidates running for three seats. A similar forum for the Chino Valley Unified school board is planned for Sept. 30; the Chino City Council debate is planned for Oct. 6.

Also this week, a feature on Steven Arnold, the man hoping to ride on the coattails of one of Upland’s best known stores. Davis Goldmark Jewelers in downtown recently closed its doors after 70 years.

In education news, Cal Poly Pomona President Michael Ortiz will discuss the thorny issues of the budget and a graduation initiative to increase the six-year graduation rate. Ortiz is presenting the 2010-11 convocation today.
