Only one candidate for California governor, the American Independent Party’s Chelene Nightingale, openly supports S.B. 1070, a controversial new immigration law in Arizona.
Nightingale said she expects that position will help her attract new supporters.
“We’re already seeing it,” Nightingale said. “That is the reason people have responded to our campaign … Immigration is a hot topic, and people feel they don’t have any choice.”
Republican candidate Meg Whitman has said she is opposed to the Arizona law and has launched a Spanish-language advertising campaign to let voters know just that. And Libertarian Party candidate Dale Ogden called S.B. 1070 misguided.
Nightingale, a Palmdale resident, said she hopes those positions will drive conservative voters her way.
“I don’t really view Meg Whitman as a conservative,” Nightingale said.
But she said she is also getting support from some Democrats.
“I’ve had people saying, `I’m not voting for them, I’m voting for you,”‘ Nightingale said. “I don’t see this as a Republican issue or a Democratic issue. I see it as an American issue.”

Please be advised that this Chelene Nightingale for governor 2010 appears to be a stooge. I heard her speak and she does not know the first things about running a state. She does not know the laws of the land is trying to wing it. She has spoke about her “losing her home” Foreclosure..etc…heck, I should run for governor if they let someone with so little background, besides homeschooling her kid run. thanks for listening.
Was she wrapped in a Betsy Ross American flag wearing a “Don’t Tread On Me” tee-shirt while she was giving this interview? Nightingale must be a Tea Partier for sure and that’s why even though she doesn’t really know that much about politics, who knows? People are really pissed-off with the government right now, I have to give her a hand just for trying (don’t know that I’ll throw my vote at her though just yet)o:?
