The Fair Political Practices Commission is taking its time to review a matter brought to it by City Councilman Mick Gallagher.
Gallagher had requested a determination as to whether his rental of a Redlands home to his son, Ryan, who works for the city as a firefighter, constitutes a conflict of interest.
City Attorney Dan McHugh wrote the FPPC on Gallagher’s behalf, asking for a review of the rental arrangement.
The FPPC received McHugh’s letter June 24, said Executive Director Roman Porter.
“We are still working on that,” Porter said Friday. “We have 21 days to complete it.”
The FPPC’s Enforcement Division has not received any official complaints about Gallagher or his rental arrangement with his son, said Tara Stock, legislative coordinator for the FPPC.
Gallagher said Friday that the home on Serpentine Drive originally belonged to his parents. Ownership of the home shifted to Gallagher in 1995 when his parents passed away.
The home is now valued at $149,155. On his statement of economic interests form – filed during his 2005 City Council run – he lists a gross income between $1,001 to $10,000 from the rental property.
Gallagher’s son, son, Ryan, 32, joined the city’s fire department in January 2009. He works as a firefighter/paramedic.
Gallagher said the home is not an investment and he does not make any money through property tax or deductions from his arrangement with his son.
“What am I gaining?” he said Friday. “I do not invest in that property.”
