A commission that regulates campaign financing in the state has fined two executives from Upland-based The Lewis Group of Cos.

The California Fair Political Practices Commission fined Richard A. Lewis and David R. Lewis for not filing semiannual campaign statements in a timely manner. The two Upland residents on Thursday each agreed to pay $400 in penalties.

The Lewises discovered the errors in the summer of 2009 and notified the commission and the California Secretary of State’s Office, Executive Vice President Randall Lewis said.

“We anticipate that amount will be the sole penalty arising out of these errors,” Randall Lewis said. “They greatly regret these errors, and they’ve taken steps to see that this doesn’t happen again.”

Executive Vice President David Lewis in 2007 failed to disclose on time $12,096 in contributions, which included $3,600 to the Bob Smith for Assembly Campaign, $3,600 to Curt Hagman’s campaign for the Assembly and $2,600 to the Russ Bogh Leadership Committee.

David Lewis oversees the company’s multifamily housing development operations.

Richard Lewis in 2005 did not disclose $12,191 in a correct manner, which included $3,300 for the Russ Bogh Leadership Committee, $3,200 for Steve Adams’ candidacy for Assembly and $2,500 for Norma Torres’ Assembly run.
