Unfortunately a project like the Duncan Canyon / I-15 is mostly funded through Development Mitigation fees … fees that will be collected AFTER the interchange is completed. So SANBAG allows cities to “loan” redevelopment funds to their Nexus mitigation fee program to put in the improvements that will stimulate the next wave of development. Hope that helps you better understand the issue of cash flow to deliver multi-million dollar projects. Class dismissed.

As for taxing “us” folks in the unincorporated areas to improve City Hall, obviously you have no clue how taxes are passed … by a vote of the people. Nobody who was annexed has had ANY NEW TAXES imposed on them or voted on. Let me put it another way that might be simpler — you’re lying!

Also, stop gobbling up all the unincorporated areas of Fontana and taxing us for it to improve your city hall. We don’t like it.

Not only has Acquanetta been very outspoken about the impacts of illegal immigration on public safety and employment, she and the entire city council put in place measures (Conditions of Approval) to ensure that our Home Improvement centers (Home Depot & Lowes) didn’t turn into day-laborer camps (the kind that Kurth is coming under attack). We refused to call for the County to halt their 287(g) cooperation with ICE. We have active DUI and license checkpoints to increase the safety in our community. But don’t let facts get in the way of this campaign.

Then there were the other attacks that clearly demonstrate that Morrell has never held public office in a local community. Sewer rates in Fontana increased Mr. Morrell because we are part of the IEUA and we were obligated to pass through THEIR cost increases.

Then there’s the nonsense about taxes on new homes… they’re called DEVELOPMENT MITIGATION FEES to ensure that DEVELOPERS pay for the impacts of growth on the community. This way new residents pay with NO NEW TAXES on existing residents.

Then there’s the reference to the $8.2 million deficit in Fontana. Well guess what the mailer didn’t mention?? We balanced the budget through across the board cuts, concessions from our employees, and NO NEW TAXES. In fact, during Acquanetta’s terms on the Council, we have been able to ELIMINATE OUR UTILITY TAX while continuing to improve services to our residents. Sounds like Acquanetta is the perfect choice to send to Sacramento to fix a deficit.

The City council has taken actions to forbid day-laborer activities around our home improvement centers. We specifically put in place conditions of approval that prevented loitering in the parking lot, we specifically precluded a “day-laborer” room or facility (something Kurth is being attacked for supporting), and Councilwoman Warren has been very vocal about the impacts of illegal immigration on employment. So much so that Gil Navarro unleashed a hateful attack against the Councilwoman at our last meeting (http://video.fontana.org/ClientWebApp/Fontana/Video.aspx?VideoId=6651dadf-6117-45e1-98b0-df1b96f2e3bf&Index=5) … go to the 56:20 mark of the meeting to watch the verbal assault.

Unfortunately Mr. Morrell has never held elected office at the local level and doesn’t understand what we can and can’t do. His mailer is also further evidence that he fails to understand what local government does to deal with the impacts of growth. First thing you do is place development mitigation fees so that DEVELOPERS pay for facilities required by the growth. Cities also have to raise “pass through” fees like sewer rates to other agencies (like IEUA). Once again, he would understand that if he held a local elected position.

Last thing his mailer fails to mention is that Fontana has balanced that $8.2 million deficit through cost cutting — NO NEW TAXES. So Acquanetta Warren would be the best person to send to Sacramento … she dealt with a 10% cut in spending this year in order to balance the budget. NO NEW TAXES. In fact, while Acquanetta was on our city council, we were able to wean ourselves off of the Utility Users Tax.

Whoever is unfortunate enough to actually win this primary can count on up to 6 years of banging their head against a wall. I pity the winner.

Let’s just stop the negativity and all hug. Mike’s a good man, Don is a good man… we are taken care of either way.

I do not see the connection between calling somebody weak on immigration and being racist. And as far as being the highest ranking…african american….elected…republican…any other categories we have to name? I think she is the only black republican elected in the inland valley.

Just wanted to correct the record. I am actually based in San Diego and I also never had anything to do with Jack Abramoff. I also think it is strange that you are attacking a consultant.

Morrell is a good man, his facts in the comparison piece are accurate, which you can check per the council minutes of each politician.

How about Kurth’s piece accusing Morrell of foreclosing on an elderly couple? You do know only a BANK can foreclose, don’t you? Campaign geniuses. You do realize that’s defamation of character, don’t you? Campaign geniuses.
