This is the second letter received from the FPPC on this matter. The first letter acknowledged receipt of the complaint and advised they would determine if there was enough evidence to investigate. The 460 speaks for itself so it would have been hard to say there is no evidence.
Basically, the complaint alleges that Ramos used his campaign account as a slush fund—something he is accusing everyone else of doing. And it appears that he used his campaign account so that his county credit card would not be scrutinized.
Remember all the charges regarding Suzanne Hunter in Sacramento that County Counsel legal beagle Ruth Stringer ruled were part of the “deliberative process” and therefore not subject to release to the public? Had someone taken the county to court under a California Public Record Acts (CPRA) request, the records would have been released because fornication is certainly not part of the “deliberative process.” By using his campaign account instead of his county credit card, he thought he would get around that possibility but $13000 in credit card charges raises a red flag. There would have had to have been more than 130 individual charges in a six-month period in a non-campaign year for him not to have to itemize the charges.

I’d have to say the lay person in this county does a better job than some in the PIU of the DA’s office. NO WAY that couldn’t be possible.
One must have a Cal Bar card to question another attorney’s practices.
One must be highly educated to run an official office.
One must have a badge to really know when crime is happening.
Seems like Sharon is doing a much better job than the public integrity unit. Took some real guts on Sharon’s part to make that complaint.
Does Mikey still like (real) Life now? VOTE FRANK GUZMAN FOR DA.
I am somewhat surprised that Team Ramos guys like David Ellis and Marvin Reiter have allowed these type of issues to exist. Ellis and Reiter both have good reputations. However, they have tied their rope to ship Ramos. Unfortunately that rope is turning into a noose! There are several people looking at these two to see how long they are going to continue to support Ramos.
Isn’t Reiter a licensed CPA. If he is in fact covering for Ramos the state should take a look at whether he should keep his license. Ethical people don’t work for people like Ramos.
Yes, Reiter is a licensed CPA, and as his treasurer he either knew or should have known about the alleged violations. This could have an impact on his license, reputation, and business. These are not the kind of issues anyone wants their CPA to be facing.
I remember Branch Rickey theory, better to trade them a year early than a year late. The time to lose Ramos is now, before it’s too late.
Wow! Ramos is a major millstone. The Sun and Press Enterprise both endorse him despite the moral issues, because after all they are only personal moral issues and have nothing to do with the man (yeah right). That argument does not pass the smell test for most people. If you can’t keep it right with your wife, other things most men and women know follow. Does the Sun & Press Enterprise really think that voters are as impressed by the money, the glitz and the fact he is an hispanic incumbent as the Sun & Press Enterprise are? I am still amazed that conviction rates and why they are so low has not been touched by the papers. I am still amazed that the reasons for Ramos being over budget was avoided by the Sun & Press Enterprise–again both challengers raised those issues. Give me a shot at the leadership. We should not have to accept such morally corrupted leadership in the “top cop” job. BOB CONAWAY for DA – 2010!!
