Trial dates were set Tuesday for a former Grand Terrace city councilman charged in a felony conflict of interest case, following prosecutors’ withdrawal of a misdemeanor plea deal.

Jim Miller, 62, resigned his longtime council seat in March, about eight months after he was accused of voting in 2006 to approve city payments for advertising in his wife’s community newspaper. He faces one felony count of the government code for conflict of interest.

Deputy District Attorney John Goritz said that the misdemeanor offer was withdrawn after Miller did not accept. At a brief hearing in San Bernardino County Superior Court on Tuesday, a pretrial hearing was set for July 27, with jury selection scheduled to begin on Aug. 9.
