The San Bernardino County Public Defender was replaced and outside counsel was appointed for former Assessor Bill Postmus this morning during a hearing in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
Judge Michael Dest barked at Postmus when Postmus attempted to inform the court he didn’t want to be represented by the conflict panel. Dest told Postmus something to the affect of if you don’t like it you can pay for your own attorney.
Redlands Attorney Richard Farquhar was appointed as defense counsel.
Principals for the San Bernardino County Conflict Defense Panel were observed hovering outside the courtroom.

It looks like the fix is in. Dest knows that the conflict panel has given Ramos over a hundred thousand dollars. Now he thinks it is ok for them to represent Postmus. How is that going to work?
Guess Postmus’ attorney (oh wait, he doesn’t have one) really knows what THEY are doing!?
Come on ESQ, Billy Bob just wants the County to pay his attorney fees: salt in the wound. Farquhar should be adequate for this case. Guess Bill should have socked some of all those elicit funds away for a rainy day instead of shoving them up his nose. Most of the PD’s are buffoons anyway.
Unwilling, the county is already going to pay for his defense. That was Ramos’ strategy from the very beginning. You over charge the case, you get high bail and you stall until the defendant runs out of money. You get his attorney who has had the case for over a year off the case. You get the court to appoint one of your political supporters as a replacement and then they sell out the defendant. With all of the errors in this case already, the last thing Ramos wants is for the defendant to get a decent defense. They are the ones that call this the biggest corruption case in the county’s history. Do you think appointing someone who has never handled a complex case of this magnitude before fair. I am sure the 9th circuit won’t.
Farquhar has handled numerous difficult cases, just ask him. It will never make it to the ninth circuit cause he will just plead up. I am sure if we looked a little further into BP’s finances he has something stashed away. If not, well roll the dice like any grape street crip or indigent arrested in the county. I will give an extra buck or two to see posthmus go down in an arrogant ball of flames.
