Claremont resident and Los Angeles City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana announced this weekend that he has enrolled in an alcohol treatment center and is temporarily stepping down from his post.

“I do not know how long this stage of my journey will be,” Santana said in a statement. “I apologize to my family, friends, the mayor, the City Council, CAO staff and the entire city family for my irresponsible behavior.

“The outpouring of support and prayer has helped carry my family and me during this difficult time.”

Santana was arrested by the California Highway patrol about 12:30 a.m. Friday in Covina on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was booked and then released from the county sheriff’s jail in Industry at 2:30a.m., according to county records.

Santana had attended a charity “roast” for Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley on Thursday evening at the Marriott Hotel at L.A. Live, according to media reports.
