Riverside County Auditor-Controller Robert Byrd announced this week he is not seeking re-election to a third four-year term.
Byrd was first elected auditor in 2002 after three years as an assistant auditor-controller and a total of 24 years with Riverside County.
“This has been a difficult decision, but one that has been carefully considered, and is the right choice for me and my family at this point in my career,” Byrd said in a statement released late Thursday afternoon.
Byrd made the announcement to staff this week. But in his statement Thursday, Byrd did not cite specific reasons for not seeking re-election.
The auditor-controller’s office provides fiscal oversight to county agencies, maintains the county budget, distributes property tax revenues and processes employee payroll checks and payments to outside vendors.
