The Riverside school board could vote today to lay off 72 teachers and 48 administrators, and cut management pay.

The 72 instructors would be in addition to 160 teachers from elementary schools the board voted Feb. 1 to lay off.

The district now faces a budget shortfall of $47 million to $49 million for 2010-11 as state funding drops.

More reductions are expected later, although all teacher layoff notices must be issued by March 15 under state law.

Nineteen elementary teachers, nine English teachers, eight social-studies teachers, eight more elementary teachers, seven special-education teachers, five Spanish teachers, four math teachers, four science teachers, three music teachers, three home-economics teachers, a business teacher and an art teacher are on the list for today.

Thirty-four assistant principals and 14 instructional services specialists are on another layoff list.

Remaining managers would take five furlough days to reduce their pay a total of $400,000.
