Attorney General Jerry Brown spent just $370,525 last year on his undeclared Democratic candidacy for governor, raised $8.3 million and had $12.1 million in cash on hand as of Dec. 31, according to campaign finance records he filed today with the secretary of state.

That marks a sharp contrast to Republican front-runner Meg Whitman, who provided a peek into her campaign finance figures last month. While she raised a little more than Brown last year – $10.2 million – Whitman had already spent about $19 million on her campaign as of Jan. 21, an unprecedented amount so far ahead of Election Day.
