The best golfer in Congress? Rep. Joe Baca, D-San Bernardino, says he holds that title.

A recent profile of Baca in The Green golf magazine identifies him as such, and Baca doesn’t try to shrug of the honor.

“Let’s just say I’ve beaten everybody,” Baca said Friday.

A few years ago, Baca squared off on the links against Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., who was ranked – unofficially – as the best golfer in Congress. Baca beat him 70 strokes to 76.

A golf booster when he’s off the course, Baca is chairman of the relatively new Congressional Golf Caucus, a bipartisan group that wants to promote the sport.

He has been a leading force in bringing The First Tee, a PGA-affiliated program that aims to teach life skills through golf, to San Bernardino County.
