Today, as expected, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisor’s hired Ontario city manager Greg Devereaux as it next County Administrative Officer effective February 13, 2010.
The vote was a unanimous 5-0.
Devereaux’s level of experience was highly sought out by county supervisors.
The five year contract covering Devereaux’s employment carries an annual salary of $305,000 with full benefits and retirement system participation. The contract also provides for and additional five year consulting arrangement between Devereaux and the county at an annual rate of $91,000 per year.
I don’t get it. A 5 year contract with an annual salary of $305,000 with full benefits and retirement system participation, plus a 5 year consulting arrangement between Devereaux and the county at an annual rate of $91,000 per year. This totals $396,000 a year. Why did the Supervisors do two seperate contracts with Devereaux? Sure hope Devereaux lives up to all that will be expected of him. He will be in my prayers!
The consulting arrangement is an option, which follows the five years as the actual CAO.
A consulting arrangement five years off, what would he be consulting the County about? Sure hope it’s the County’s option regarding the term as a consultant because he must feel that he will have at least two other former agencies in Ontario and Fontana that will be his clients. From what has occurred recently with both Ontario and Fontana, his former cities, becoming federal economic recovery zones, he must be planning on transforming the entire county into a welfare recovery zone and then become the premiere redevelopment consultant in the IE. California has the reputation and operation to earn it the title Welfare Sate… San Bernardino County is going for the moniker Welfare County under Devereaux’s leadership and consultation. This consulting arrangement is a slap in the face to any real consultant professional by our County’s ”
decision making BOS. Can’t say that I have faith now that they are capable of any rational and reasonable ones after this selection and negotiations process- Mark Kirk, you are a complete push over, this “deal”, especially the questionable consulting arrangement is a joke and obviously not in the best interest of the public.
Devereaux sure knows about organizational revitalization (about as much as he knows about rehabilitation and redevelopment) and the “consulting arrangement(s)” that are utilized to implement such public relationships. Jim, next time you see the little devil, ask him about The Aslan Group and Richey Rich Underwood or Johnny P. Sullivan and the sweet “consulting arrangement(s)” they had with Ontario over his entire fourteen year reign as City Manager. You’ve seen that deer in the headlights look haven’t you, well what about the look when the headlights are broken and the deer becomes a hood ornament before he even knows what hit him? What a mess, oh the carnage…and Mikey likes it too.
