The San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce plans to present a resolution stating its position on a proposed county government center at the Carousel Mall by the first of the year, chamber president Judi Penman said Tuesday.
The chamber is pushing to have its resolution presented to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors sometime after its first meeting in January, Penman said.
The county wants to relocate its 155,000-square-foot headquarters on Arrowhead Avenue and consolidate operations for its approximately 18,000 employees to the nearly 1million-square-foot Carousel Mall property on Second Street, adjacent the 215 Freeway.
“The chamber has not taken a position. We have a committee formed to look at the issues here,” Penman said.
In recent months, the chamber board heard presentations from San Bernardino city officials and the Downtown Business Association, which opposes the relocation of the government center to the Carousel Mall.
